We have developed a portable measurement and data acquisition system for monitoring of the behavior of vehicles on road curves, based on CompactRIO platform.
We designed bars - signposts with integrated laser distance sensors that were used for measurements. We put them at 5 characteristic curve points (curve-beginning, center and end of the curve and two points in between). System has autonomous power supply which allows long-lasting measurements on the field. The system detects the lateral distances of the vehicle from the each pole, vehicle speed at four points of the curve as well as vehicle length. Data display and data analysis are obtained through application software developed for this system. PC with application software is connected via Ethernet cable to measurement system controller and retrieves recorded data from controller to PC. Besides displaying data, application allows filtering data based on different parameters, offline data analysis as well as automated report generation based on obtained results.
